		<description>Hi Ted,

Nice to hear your testimonial to how well this concept works. I haven't been eating a lot of starches for a while, (usually only fermented whole grains for breakfast and nothing more for the rest of the day), but now I've even been cutting those out, and my sleep has been significantly better. I'm wondering if somehow consuming the grain was blocking my body's ability to make the necessary neurotransmitters from the protein and fat in my diet. Pure speculation, but interesting.

Thank you also for the webcast and the other link.

Boggles the mind how there really is so much evidence pointing us in the low-carb direction, but it has not been heeded by the medical establishment and the diet pundits!

Thanks for commenting!

<description>Since reading Gary Taubes book (sold, in the UK, under the title The Diet Delusion: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom on Diet, Weight Loss and Disease) six weeks ago I haven't eaten refined carbs, starchy veg, or anything with sugar/high fructose corn syrup. I have lost 16lbs weight and have 5 inches spare now on my belt. I have lost my cravings for snacking and alcohol. Not eating so much is easy when one isn't being tempted. I feel more energetic and also think my brain is somewhat sharper as I am finding it easier to concentrate, but of course that may be partly explained by not drinking any alcohol for six weeks.

Gary Taubes book is about the politics/science underlying diet issues. To get a flavour of the book perhaps folk should listen to his talk at Berkley.
http://webcast.berkeley.edu/event_details.php?webcastid=21216 But do allow over an hour.

A useful guide to low carb eating can be found here Lowcarbohydrate Diet. For Weight Loss and Good Health. Annika Dahlqvist

		<description>Hi Magnus!

Great to hear from you! I tell people a version of the same thing - only eat food you need to pick, pull out of the ground or chase after in order to obtain. I'll add your "alive" comment because that is certainly true! When people are after weight loss, I'll tell them to eat their appropriate macronutrient ratios for their metabolic type, but rather than using starches for the carb side, to use above ground veggies.

And Lydia, very good point about MSG, and probably a whole lot of other additives. The food companies actually put stuff in their food in order to make you eat more - that is from the book by Paul Stitt- Beating the Food Giants. That is why it is hard to eat only a few potato chips or cookies ...

<description>I also think that MSG (listed as MSG, "natural flavor," or "spices" in ingredients) in processed food makes people overeat. MSG makes people addicted to food, and keeps them hungry.

I don't blame people for overeating, it's not their fault!

This site opened my eyes to a vast amount of information regarding MSG:

<description>Many thanks Vreni for another informative and important article pertaining to why most people are becoming weight challenged!
We both use Metabolic Typing with some clients. I've found that for the majority or people I use this simple phase. "Eat only what's alive. It's either got to have eyes; above or below ground; off a bush or tree or in water"
Most of my clients have CONDITIONED themselves to eat de-natured/dead/dysfunctional foods. Breaking their addictions/habits and ego is simple when they are ready for change. As in, I will, want to, must change, etc.
Thank you again for your awesome newsletters
Much love and Qi
